Madison, Indiana – In 2017, Madison, Indiana CVB – Visit Madison, Inc. alongside the Clifty Creek Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and the Jefferson County Veterans Council announced they will be honoring Military Heroes on banners that will fly high above the Historic Downtown Madison streets and riverfront. The year 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, Major Samuel Woodfill, who is featured on our inaugural banner is a native of Madison, Indiana in Jefferson County. He was honored as the only Medal of Honor recipient from the State of Indiana and recognized as an Outstanding American Soldier in WWI. This project is inspired by his achievements. Our Veteran Banners will debut on Armed Forces Day, May 19th, 2018 with a two hour program and special guests. Additionally, a special celebration for Samuel Woodfill will occur on October 12th, 2018 the day in which he earned his Medal of Honor 100 years ago. Join the State of Indiana and City of Madison in celebrating all our military heroes. As you are visiting Madison, walk the riverfront and take a moment to be thankful for our freedom and the sacrifice these heroes made and are making.
