Originally, The Spencer Hotel, built in 1909 by Mrs. Ensign and her famliy was sold to Helen Edgington in 1967. Under Ms. Edgington’s stewardship and creative vision, The Spencer Hotel was accepted into the Select Registry bed and breakfast collection, an exclusive group of the finest bed and breakfasts in the country.

Our gorgeous Bed & Breakfast provides the nicest and most relaxing accommodations in the area. Relax and unwind in one of our 15 standard rooms for the ultimate cozy bed-and-breakfast feeling. If you’d like a little more space, try one of our 9 beautiful suites, all are equipped with a convenient kitchenette. We even have one apartment available.

We feature a unique literary theme, which offers an experience you will not find anywhere else where you can find your favorite literary heroes! Each of our rooms is dedicated to a famous author, all rooms are decorated with murals painted by local artists, and feature music we think the author would appreciate and a selection of library books written by the author. Please Note: Reservations for the Chautauqua season to be reserved online must be made in one-week blocks only, Saturday to Saturday. Please call the hotel for a shorter stay.
